According to Mark Zuckerberg’s post on Thursday, the news feed on Facebook is going to further emphasize friends and family content over publishers and brands. Mark said that he wants people to have more meaningful interactions on the site, and so the amount of non-advertising content is going to be greatly reduced in an effort to connect people with each other more. In the short-term, the time people spend on Facebook and some measures of engagement will go down, but they are expecting these changes to be better for users and businesses over the long term. Advertising on the network is not going to be unaffected by these new changes.
