Google sees huge profits from from use of ad space. Smartphone users often see a page of ads before seeing search results. The ad creep on Google pushes unpaid results down the page underneath paid sites. P.L.A.’s, or profit listing ads, allow business to post pictures, descriptions, and prices. Google claims that this search format allows users to find the best search results quickly. Businesses compete for the top spots in the search results. Product ads are even more important for retailers now because 55% of people start their shopping searches on Amazon, so the ads provide a way to attract attention from Amazon.
